Pregnancy Week 5

Week 5.

With the embryo growing at a phenomenal speed, the baby now looks like a little tadpole, it sounds funny but it’s such a true comparison. Your baby is already the size of an apple seed.

The embryo now has three layers, each having its own function.

The outer layer called the ectoderm will form the spinal cord and brain of the body, it will also form the skin, nails, hair, sweat, and mammary glands.

he middle layer, the mesoderm will form the heart of your baby along with muscles, cartilage, bones, and tissue under the baby’s skin.

The inner/third layer, which is called the endoderm, will form the baby’s lungs, liver, pancreas, thyroid, intestines, and a basic urinary channel.

Mom, your baby has been developing for weeks, however, depending on your cycle, you may have just noticed your missed period. This may cause you to experience mixed emotions, anxiety, and excitement but it is time to get tested.

Home pregnancy kits are usually quite accurate and if those two lines appear, you are pregnant. Visit your GP or family doctor, to confirm your pregnancy and you may want to start considering whether you choose public or private care.

Folic Acid is key to baby’s development in the first three months and will be recommended by your Obstetrician.
